FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: Do I need to complete to have completed any prior courses to enrol ?

A: No, The Bicycle Academy courses have no prerequisites. If you are already an industry professional you may be able to complete the Certificate III course via our Recognition of Prior Learning.

Q: Is it possible to complete the assessments only for higher level Cytech technical two or three courses?

A: Due to the varied and complex nature of the modules in the Cytech training levels, we have adopted a system of continuous assessment, therefore it is not possible to apply for recognition of prior learning for Cytech courses. They must be completed in order.

Q: Are there any fee subsidies, government support and/or discounts available?

A: Government funding for the Certificate III Bicycle Workshop Operations (AUR30220) is available for many of our students and enables them to complete their training at a very affordable price. The Bicycle Academy supports any opportunity that allows more and more people to get a kickstart in their career by undertaking an accredited course with us, and government funded programs aid us in doing this. However, government funding varies from state to state and may be available for some of The Bicycle Academy courses in New South Wales, ACT, South Australia and Queensland. Q: Is there funding available for Cytech training courses only?

A: No, all Cytech training courses are fee-for-service and paid by the student, as per the pricing schedule.

Q: How will studying with you advance my career?

A: Our philosophy is to develop students who will be job-ready from day one. We don’t just teach theory, we give you opportunities to practice what you’re learning, and we teach practical skills that we know from our experience are required in the workforce.

Q:  Will you help me get a job after I graduate?

A: We aren’t an employment service, but we do have a large network of bicycle industry employers that we can use to help you make the right introductions. Plus there are plenty of opportunities to build networks with our staff and other students while you’re studying. If you are completing an Apprenticeship with The Bicycle Academy you must have employment with one of our employer partners.

Q: Will studying with The Bicycle Academy make me employable in the industry?

A: The Bicycle Academy programs are also used as the in-house mechanic training by 99 Bikes, one of our foundation partners. 99 Bikes use The Bicycle Academy to manage their apprentice mechanics, but also as a recruitment pool for potential new employees.

Q: Does The Bicycle Academy have any other employer partnerships?

A: 99 Bikes and Advance Traders ( bicycle industry wholesaler) are the foundation partners that helped create and develop the academy. In time as The Bicycle Academy grows, we are seeking new Employer partnerships all the time.

Q: What types of people study with you?

A: The program is designed to suit all types of students from school leavers wanting to obtain a qualification, to someone wanting to start their own business, or a mature age student wanting to up-skill or change employment direction.

Q: How many students in each class?

A: We keep class sizes small in order to offer the best possible training; there is a maximum of 8 students per class.

Q: Who are our trainers?

A: They all have had or still have successful careers in bicycle mechanics and in the cycle industry, so they apply their practical knowledge and experience to the course content. The Bicycle Academy trainers are master mechanics with extensive industry experience, who are qualified to train both the Certificate III Apprenticeship & Cytech training Courses.

Q: What are the minimum entry requirements?

A:

  • Intermediate standard in Language Literacy and Numeracy (ACSF level 3)

  • A basic knowledge of bicycles and their components parts.

  • Be able to see small objects distinctly (with or without glasses/contact lenses).

  • Mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity are an advantage but not essential.

Q: Are there any minimum age requirements to complete a course?

A: Yes, typically students must be 16 years of age when commencing Cytech training. However, please contact us for any students aged 14-15 years as our trainers can assess each individual to determine whether they may be able to participate within an “adult” learning environment.

Q:  Do I need an ATAR Score?

A: No, we do not assess entries based on an ATAR score.

Q: Where is The Bicycle Academy based?

A: There are dedicated Bicycle Academy locations in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. These locations allow 100% focus on training in a real-world workshop fitted out to the highest certified standard.

Q: How much does The Bicycle Academy cost?

A: All Cytech courses are fee for service as per the pricing table on this website. Certifcate III apprenticeships can either be fee-for-service or funded by the government, depending on whether you are eligible.

Q: Can I pay my course fees in instalments?

A: Not at this time, however we are looking to introduce payment plans in the near future.
